ABOUT THE ARTIST
Başak Alkan, born in Istanbul in 1979, completed her middle and high school education in the same city before pursuing her undergraduate education at Uludağ University. Following her graduation in 2000, she began her career in trade. She currently continues her active role as a manager in the foreign trade department of an industrial company.
She was introduced to the art of marbling in 2012 and continued her training both at Caferağa Madrasah and in her personal workshop. In 2013, four of her works were exhibited in a group exhibition held at the Atatürk Library in Taksim, and in 2016, six of her works were exhibited in another group exhibition held at the New Mosque Hünkar Pavilion. She received her marbling license in 2016.
In addition to her professional career, she continues her artistic experiments in the marbling workshop, where she feels happy and peaceful. Besides marbling, she also creates acrylic and similar works.
Recently, she has been showcasing a unique approach to marbling by participating in group exhibitions organized by various galleries in Istanbul. "Başka" is Başak Alkan's first solo exhibition and was presented to art lovers by the Independent Art Foundation.
