ABOUT THE ARTIST
Senol Podayva was born in Podayva, Bulgaria in 1974. After studying primary and secondary school at Otes Paisiy village school, he came to Turkey with his family in 1989 with mandatory migration. He took stone carving lessons from Ziyattin Nuriyev and metal sculpture lessons from Prof. Tulay Baytuğ. He worked as an assistant of sculptor Necmi Murat for 3 years and worked on monumental sculpture projects. He participated as an assistant in the joint ceramic panel and mosaic works of Dr. Sadiq Altinok and Necmi Murat. In 2006, he continued yusuf Taktak's "Karagöz" workshop for one year. He is currently working in his workshop in Istanbul, outside the city.
Even though I create abstract figurative works, I care a lot about the pattern in the painting. The pattern, which is considered the core of the art of painting, is a skeleton that sustains the painting. I sometimes blend and illustrate religious events and mythological phenomena with current issues. What I can never give up is always to keep searching for beautiful colors in my paintings because I believe that colors feed the soul. That's why I sometimes work in nature like an impressionist.
