ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hulya Yucel was born in Hacibektas, in 1983. She completed her primary, middle and high school education in her home town and graduated from Ankara GUMEF, Painting Instructorship Department. Between 1984-2005, she worked as teacher around Turkey and she introduced her students with art and assisted them to exhibit their works. After her retirement in 2007, she started to work with adults. While working as an art instructor at CAHEM, she started her career as an artist by practicing with different mediums. Lack of atelier and due to her interest to water color, she practiced this technique and recognized as water color artist.
Because of her belief in the fact that art can’t be limited to a single technique, she practiced on waxed batik paintings which is rare. She disliked working with oil due to long drying process. She likes to work fast and gather results as soon as possible, therefore she switched to acrylic paint. Her inquisitive character made her to use relief and acrylic paint which resulted with a unique and authentic style. In addition, she continued her quest by creating collage works by merging canvas with ceramic, mirror pieces and glass beads. Hulya Yucel participated in 20 group exhibitions and held 3 solo exhibitions within Turkey.
